Event recommendation: The Hoi-An Lantern Festival in Wernigerode

If, like us, you can't get enough of Vietnam (besides coffee and spices), then we have an interesting event tip for you: The Lantern Festival in Wernigerode!

 What? Hoi An Lantern Festival

A touch of Asia in Central Germany

The town of Wernigerode, located in the Harz Mountains, has a lot more to offer than just beautiful half-timbered houses and the steam-powered Brocken Railway. Since 2013, it has been twinned with the UNESCO World Heritage town of Hoi An. The town on Vietnam's central coast is known for its well-preserved old town and numerous canals. Its atmospheric evening backdrop with countless lanterns is once again the model and namesake for the Wernigerode Lantern Festival.

Experience Vietnamese culture

The reason for the event, which lasts several days, is to present the twin town and introduce joint projects. For years, people have been working intensively on topics such as the joint construction of a photovoltaic system, which has been providing electricity for the lantern lighting in the old town of Hoi An for the past year. But of course there are also a number of attractions and smaller events. Chefs, artists, craftsmen and traders lure visitors with authentic Vietnamese cooking and handicrafts. Feel invited to sample traditional dishes from Southeast Asia, admire the delicate handicrafts of the Vietnamese or simply enjoy the extensive stage program.
